......Romulus, My Father may show at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival before its Australian release on May 31. The producers will find out in about six weeks whether the film will be screened there.
"It's a very exciting time, we've worked on this project for many years," Connolly said. The film may be considered for entry in the Toronto Film Festival, he said, which is a gateway to the North American market.

Back in Town

Right, got back last Friday and have hit the ground running. Good to be back, had a great trip and it's straight back into the race it seems. The Masonia music clip made the top 50 most requests songs on Channel V and went to number 7 which was great and has had airplay on Rage and MTV. Happy with the result so hoping to get more music videos or other interesting projects to do. The next job I'm doing is editing the behind the scenes for the feature film - Romulus, My Father. It stars Eric Bana, Franka Potente, Marton Csokas and was directed by Richard Roxburgh. The film was shot in Victoria this year so looking forward to doing this one, should be interesting. The website is www.romulusmyfather.com.au Drop an email if you have any queries and I will reply pronto. All the best.
35mm at AFTRS
Posted by Adam on 28/11/2006
Last week I got called up to direct a 35mm short at AFTRS. Did four days and finished today. Had a ball doing it. Great experience working on 35mm and having resources likes cranes, dollies, tracks, two cameras, cars, guns, blanks, squibs and a great crew. Enjoyed being able to construct shots, scenes and direct the actors who were all easy to work with. Watching the rushes this week. The project is for the cinematography and design students to hone their skills so the focus is to exercise their abilities. From my angle, it was cool to work with a range of talented people who are all using what resources are available to make the project look as good as possible. Seeing the rushes this week so looking forward to that. Back doing the behind the scenes for Romulus, My Father till Xmas and looking forward to a break.

Behind the Scenes
Posted by Adam on 22/01/2007
Full swing into 2007. Had a great xmas break and the first couple of weeks of january were relaxing also. Glad I finished editing the Director's Diaries for Romulus, My Father. Just have to fine tune them as they are put up on the web over the next few months. Will be good to see what people think of them. It's great to be involved with an Australian film that is doing this as it hasn't been done to this extent before. Big films do web blogs and diaries so why not small ones!! Budget shouldn't always be the problem. Also editing the behind the scenes documentary for the film which I'm stoked to be doing. Have some great interviews with the cast and crew and there's loads of footage from film shoot so should be a great addition to the DVD and any tv spots that may pop up. All else well otherwise. Just need to find time to write a little more so I can direct another project soon. Putting the Masonia music in the SoundKilda music vid competition so fingers crossed..Cheers
3/1/07 - Here's a very welcome bit of news from Audio Loc and Film Australia.
3:15 pm Friday March 2 2007
Phil Heywood has completed the mix of Richard Roxborough's first feature. ROMULUS, MY FATHER is based on Raimond Gaita's critically acclaimed memoir. It tells the story of Romulus, his beautiful wife, Christina, and their struggle in the face of great adversity to bring up their son, Raimond. It is a story of impossible love that ultimately celebrates the unbreakable bond between father and son.
2/21/07 - For those of you who think Marton is serious all the time, this article from a film magazine named FACTORY is a hoot. It's from 2005 and at last we know the source of that strange pic of him with the dog.
What he’s done: Rain, Asylum, The Great Raid, Evilenko, Kingdom of Heaven, Lord of the Rings
What’s next: Aeon Flux
What would you like to do: "I’d like to play Hamlet and sing in a satanic death metal band accompanied by the Lithuanian Girls Choir.”
Dream project: “There is a script floating around about the fictitious relationship between Orson Welles and Billie Holiday. I always thought that sounded fabulous, the premise is wonderful. It is written by David Margolick who also wrote Billie’s bio, Strange Fruit.”
Ruth Vitale on Marton: "Marton has a depth and mystery that is immeasurable. There are layers upon layers. He has the charisma of the actors of the 1940s. His image is astounding.”
Marton on Marton: “This story was told to me by someone I respect and it has great resonance for me—there is a garden in Kyoto, Japan that is composed of 13 large boulders. From any vantage point in the garden, you can only ever see twelve of the boulders, you can never see all of them. That garden is in fact a microcosm of life.”
2/11/07 - Marton accompanied Eva to the British Film Awards tonight where she was nominated for the Rising Star award. She won and you can see he was very proud. From the stage, she thanked "my Marton, he's been my best friend through all this." As you can see, they're both dressed alike in high collars. More about these inside and a video clip of her win.
2/07/07 - Marton takes his Hungarian roots seriously and here's an autograph of his, accent marks and all.
An interview from www.székesfehérvár.com explains. "Up till the age of 13, he wrote his name in English fashion, despite having Hungarian citizenship. According to him, he realized at the age of 13 how important his roots are for him; since then, he usually even uses the accents while writing his name."
1/25/07 - Two pieces of news. From etherealtb comes word that Marton is back in California. He was spotted riding his bike in Venice last week. This isn't the first time we've heard of Marton's love of two wheels. Here's an entertaining bit from the journalist who interviewed him for Close-Up Film.
"I caught up with the up-and-coming star of stage and screen for a telephone chat as he cycled through Venice Beach, alternately interjecting here and there with a commentary on the goings on runaway pets and bereft owners."
There was a cast and crew screening of ROMULUS, MY FATHER in Melbourne last week as well. Director Richard Roxburgh joked that now, having completed his first feature as a director, he wants to apologise to all the directors he has previously worked with as an actor. The release date though still seems to be in flux with dates from February to June being mentioned. Soon as we get something solid, MCN will let you know.
1/18/07 - From joyin we have a great new pic from ROMULUS, MY FATHER of Rai and Hora. Raimond Gaita who wrote the book this film is based on, has said Hora was his second father so whatever this scene is about, it's certain to be important.
1/11/07 - Fifteen interviews have been added to Interviews section. For a real insight into our complicated Kiwi, check out the in-depth piece from Offscreen Magazine. It's long, but well worth reading.
1/6/07 - Word has come that the official release of ROMULUS, MY FATHER will be postponed from March to June or July. No info yet on the reason for the delay or the effect if any, on release dates in other countries.
1/1/07 - With the beginning of the new year, we've started a new year here as well. MARTON CSOKAS NETWORK been completely revamped with lots of new material and a different look. Among other things, there's a detailed filmography section with Marton's thoughts on many of the films listed there, a multimedia section with many video clips featuring him in various roles, and a huge gallery featuring pics from roles, photo shoots, and casual appearances. For those who've been concerned about the slow pace of Marton's career this year and last, the various interviews clearly show he's much more concerned with the quality of his work, not the quantity.
If there's anything you'd like to see here, feel free to write us and we'll do our best to track it down.
12/12/06 - When Marton decided to come out of his cave, he started at the top as you can see in this photo of him in a group meeting Queen Elizabeth at the CASINO ROYALE premiere. Ever the independent spirit, he dressed for the occasion in a tux, but didn’t bother shaving. Thanks to evagreenweb.com for this great shot; Eva Green is standing directly behind her co-star, Daniel Craig.
11/14/06 - For those who've wondered if Marton had fallen off the face of the earth the last few months, he's just reappeared in a big way. Here's one picture of him escorting Eva Green (Sybilla in KINGDOM OF HEAVEN) into the after party at the London mega premiere of CASINO ROYALE. It's been rumoured for well over a year they were dating, but until now, they've never been photographed as a couple. Judging by Marton's hand around her waist, this seems to be one rumour that's true.
"Traffic around the square came to a standstill as the stars arrived including James Bond himself DANIEL CRAIG and sexy co-star EVA GREEN with her actor boyfriend MARTON CSOKAS."

10/10/06 - According to info on the Gerry Butler site, his fans had their US convention in Colorado this past weekend [10/7-8/2006], and the major event of it was a big charity auction. Gerry donated a lot of autographed stuff, two production companies he'd worked with sent some costumes, and other actors he'd filmed with provided autographed things as well. One of them turned out to be our own Marton who signed one of those big De Kere dolls and a dvd of "Timeline" the auction committee had send him. An auction committee member mentioned that the stuff sent to him had to travel over the ocean a couple of times so I think it's safe to assume they sent him the material while he was in Australia for RMF or Peribanez.
Since Marton is taking a well-deserved break from acting these days, after having filmed Romulus, My Father earlier this year, and then performing onstage in Lope de Vega's Peribanez from July until August, there's not a whole lot of news forthcoming. Hopefully, Marton is having fun wherever and whatever he's doing, reading scripts and resting up for more films to come.
ROMULUS, MY FATHER completed principal photography in June and is now in post-production. Word from joyin, who got it from Marton himself, is that it will premiere in Australia in March 2007. However, the William Morris Agency was unable to confirm this release date for us yet. The official website is HERE.
