News and Updates
9/26/07 - Now that RIFLEMIND's opening date is fast approaching, more articles about it are appearing in the media. The September 24th edition of The Sydney Morning Herald ran an interview with Hugo Weaving which discussed the play in detail and finally mentioned what role Marton is playing. After the heavy duty drama of VIRGINIA WOOLF, a former rock 'n roll star sounds like something Marton can have a lot of fun playing.
"Upton's play reunites the band members, played by Marton Csokas and Steve Rodgers, in John's walled mansion, ostensibly to relive past glories and thrash out the new tour. Wives, partners, hangers-on and a young musician, Lee, played by Ewen Leslie, show up to jam or party with the boys."
Happy Birthday, MCN!
9/19/07 - Put on your party hats. The Marton Csokas Network is one year old today!
9/16/07 - Although Marton's name isn't mentioned, here's an interesting article from The Sydney Morning Herald about his next play, RIFLEMIND, which is already in active rehearsals. Given the relaxed nature of the rehearsals described, it's entirely possible that an actor with Marton's long experience has been able to participate in them during the day while still performing in WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF.

PHILIP Seymour Hoffman has been introduced to one of the great Aussie traditions - the smoko.
Seymour Hoffman is currently in Sydney to direct Riflemind, a play about egotistical ageing rockers who meet up to relive past glories and plan a possible comeback tour.
The Oscar-winning actor-turned-director took time out last week to join one of the play's main stars, Hugo Weaving, on the balcony outside the Sydney Theatre Company for a quick break from the rigours of rehearsals.
Weaving said Seymour Hoffman was content to let his cast explore the complexities of the script.
"He has not applied any pressure," Weaving said. "He is discovering the piece as we are. It is a very elusive piece, but a fascinating play and quite challenging."
Riflemind, which has its first preview on October 5, stars Weaving, Jeremy Sims and Susie Porter. It was written by Andrew Upton.
Weaving described Seymour Hoffman, who won the Oscar for best actor in 2006 for his portrayal of Truman Capote in Capote, as "a lovely man".
"He's very, very generous and calm and has an inquiring mind."
9/12/07 - A bonanza of film clips have been added to MCN's Multimedia section. Along with an Australian newsfeature on WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF that includes a number of shots of the play itself, there are twelve more additions from RAIN, EVILENKO, BOURNE SUPREMACY, and BEASTMASTER. As time goes by, many more clips from Marton's other films and television work will be added.
9/9/07 - Marton's films may have met so-so success at the box office, but the same can't be said for his theater work. WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF has completely sold out its run and beginning in October, his next play, RIFLEMIND, looks to do the same. Originally it was scheduled to end November 18th, but now has been extended to December 8th and only a few hundred tickets are still available.
9/6/07 - The Toronto International Film Festival opened its doors today with a huge slate of films from around the world. The official page for ROMULUS, MY FATHER has been expanded with a detailed synopsis and two screenings of it listed. Unlike Cannes or Berlinale, TIFF is a non competitive festival, but an influential one for those films gathering audience acclaim since many American distributors attend looking for the next hot ticket. Here's wishing Robert Connolly luck in making a deal that will allow Marton's American fans to see him in his latest film.
