MARTONISMS

On Marton's Role in "xXx":

In the film's production notes [Rob] Cohen says of their meeting:

"At first I was a little taken aback, because although Marton was indeed tall, dark and handsome, he was also so shy and mild-mannered that I wondered if he could play a dangerous villain like Yorgi.

"When he started to read a scene from the script in character, he was suddenly seven feet tall! After Marton left the office I turned to [casting director Ronna Kress] and said, 'Let's get him. Let's not even look any further. I don't care who else is out there, this guy's amazing'."

News and Updates

arrow 3/27/07 - Festival Bound?? In a long article from the March 26 edition of The Sun-Herald, ROMULUS, MY FATHER producer Robert Connolly mentioned his efforts to get RMF shown at Festival de Cannes(May 16-27, 2007) and Toronto International Film Festival (September 6-15, 2007). Both are very prestigious events in their own right and they have become major film markets as well with many indies finding distributors there:

......Romulus, My Father may show at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival before its Australian release on May 31. The producers will find out in about six weeks whether the film will be screened there.

"It's a very exciting time, we've worked on this project for many years," Connolly said. The film may be considered for entry in the Toronto Film Festival, he said, which is a gateway to the North American market.

There is also a video statement from Director Richard Roxburgh and a four part series of his Director's Diary here.

arrow 3/15/07 - Very big news today. The ROMULUS, MY FATHER trailer and first installment of the Director's Diary are now available online. Marton appears throughout the trailer and the film itself looks great.

arrow 3/11/07 - The unofficial word now is that ROMULUS, MY FATHER will be released May 31st in Australia. Nothing on dates for other countries. For those who don't want to wait, the screenplay by Nick Drake will be available by mail order this June. Unireps is in Australia, but they ship worldwide.

arrow 3/8/07 - ROMULUS, MY FATHER may have a tiny budget compared to most films, but that hasn't stopped the creative minds associated with it from producing features usually only seen with big movies. Adam Khamis of Yippin Creek Films is cutting a Director's Diary and a Behind the Scenes documentary. His blog has several entries about his work on RMF.

Back in Town Posted by Adam on 13/11/2006
Right, got back last Friday and have hit the ground running. Good to be back, had a great trip and it's straight back into the race it seems. The Masonia music clip made the top 50 most requests songs on Channel V and went to number 7 which was great and has had airplay on Rage and MTV. Happy with the result so hoping to get more music videos or other interesting projects to do. The next job I'm doing is editing the behind the scenes for the feature film - Romulus, My Father. It stars Eric Bana, Franka Potente, Marton Csokas and was directed by Richard Roxburgh. The film was shot in Victoria this year so looking forward to doing this one, should be interesting. The website is www.romulusmyfather.com.au Drop an email if you have any queries and I will reply pronto. All the best.

35mm at AFTRS Posted by Adam on 28/11/2006
Last week I got called up to direct a 35mm short at AFTRS. Did four days and finished today. Had a ball doing it. Great experience working on 35mm and having resources likes cranes, dollies, tracks, two cameras, cars, guns, blanks, squibs and a great crew. Enjoyed being able to construct shots, scenes and direct the actors who were all easy to work with. Watching the rushes this week. The project is for the cinematography and design students to hone their skills so the focus is to exercise their abilities. From my angle, it was cool to work with a range of talented people who are all using what resources are available to make the project look as good as possible. Seeing the rushes this week so looking forward to that. Back doing the behind the scenes for Romulus, My Father till Xmas and looking forward to a break.

Behind the Scenes Posted by Adam on 22/01/2007
Full swing into 2007. Had a great xmas break and the first couple of weeks of january were relaxing also. Glad I finished editing the Director's Diaries for Romulus, My Father. Just have to fine tune them as they are put up on the web over the next few months. Will be good to see what people think of them. It's great to be involved with an Australian film that is doing this as it hasn't been done to this extent before. Big films do web blogs and diaries so why not small ones!! Budget shouldn't always be the problem. Also editing the behind the scenes documentary for the film which I'm stoked to be doing. Have some great interviews with the cast and crew and there's loads of footage from film shoot so should be a great addition to the DVD and any tv spots that may pop up. All else well otherwise. Just need to find time to write a little more so I can direct another project soon. Putting the Masonia music in the SoundKilda music vid competition so fingers crossed..Cheers
