News and Updates
6/30/07 - Happy Birthday, Marton, from the members and staff of MARTON CSOKAS NETWORK!
6/24/07 - GEORGE [murderously]: I’m really looking forward to this, Martha.
Company B in Sydney has finally updated their page for WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF to list the rest of the cast. As George, naturally Marton is listed first. No pics available yet since rehearsals haven't started. But for a long description of this very famous play, go here.
6/18/07 - Benefiting from good word of mouth, ROMULUS, MY FATHER expanded from 45 to 55 theaters last weekend. According to VARIETY, its total box office take from May 31 to June 18 is $1,140,211 USD. Not bad for a little film many thought would never make it. Even more interesting is the per theater gross of $8,523 after two weeks in release. As a point of comparision, blockbuster PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END which was in its third week at the same time, managed only $6,807 per theater.
6/13/07 - ROMULUS, MY FATHER may not have been one of the official selections at Cannes, but producer Robert Connolly still went to the film festival to promote it and sell international distribution rights. As the following article from CONFIDENTIAL provided by one of our Australian sources, joyin, shows he had a successful trip:
WORLD IS OYSTER FOR BANA FILM
Eric Bana's increasingly bankable name has been a blessing for small-time Aussie flick ROMULUS, MY FATHER in Cannes.
Producer Robert Connolly has just returned from the south of France where the film was received exceptionally well.
CONFIDENTIAL hears that distributors from 16 countries have picked up the flick ahead of its premiere at the Rivoli
cinemas tonight. The countries include Canada, Israel, Mexico, Russia, Turkey, Germany, Greece, and China.
"It was an incredibly successful week and we are thrilled with the sales considering the film is yet to have its international premiere," Connolly told us.
The adaptation of Raymond Gaita's acclaimed memoir has received positive reviews from critics before its official release.
Bana and Director Richard Roxburgh will walk the red carpet at tonight's event.
Jeff Kennett, Kate Ceberano, Jane Turner, Glenn Robbins, and Emily Browning are among the A-listers attending the VIP screening.
6/4/07 - Several pics from a press conference before the RMF screening in Sydney. Marton, Eric, Richard, producer Robert Connolly and screenwriter Nick Drake were on the panel. In other news, Marton confirmed to one of our members that in addition to RIFLEMIND, he will be playing George in WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF with Company B
in Sydney from August 4th to September 16th. He appeared in Company B's PERIBANEZ last summer.
